Goals

The majority of the world's population lives in so-called developing countries. Nowhere else is the scarcity of health resources so existential, the loss of quality of life so severe, and interventions so cost-effective as in these countries. It is therefore not surprising that health problems in developing countries play a significant role in international health economics.

The Development Cooperation Committee aims to contribute to improving the health situation and health care in resource-poor countries. The following committee activities serve this purpose in particular:

  • Annual committee meeting with academic presentations.
  • Annual Conference: Our goal is to have one session at each annual conference with four expert presentations on this topic.
  • Exchange: Development cooperation organizations (e.g., GtZ, KfW, DED, EED, Misereor) can address the committee with specific issues.

We will forward these questions to the members of the dggö so that the right expert can be found.

Membership

Members of the German Society for Health Economics (dggö) are eligible to become members of this committee even if their research focus is not on developing countries. The demand for health economic expertise in our partner countries has increased significantly in recent years, for example, in the area of health insurance systems. Here, there is a particular demand for the knowledge of colleagues who are fully rooted in the German system and who would like to make their experience useful for other countries.
